Blogs, Bloggers, Blogging....
If you build it, will they come?
- To keep up, readers would have to visit your site regularly, or you would have to e-mail them
- "Bloglet" service automates the e-mail process. Example: PACS CSS Workshop
- Syndication: RSS (Real Simple Syndication) and Atom--XML formats to feed new entries to subscribers--"push" technology. Technical details outlined in RSS 101.
Readers/Aggregrators
- Aggregators--they subscribe to RSS feeds and collect and organize them: Inform (various topics), Memeorandum (political and tech news). See article on Memeorandum in Wired News.
- Browsers--some will let you subscribe to RSS feeds and will download the headers; e.g., Opera, Firefox
- E-mail programs--some include RSS readers, e.g., Thunderbird
- Newsreaders--these are dedicated programs for subscribing to RSS feeds: Feed Demon, Feed Reader; see survey at The RSS Weblog. See list of readers at RSS Info.
- Creating Feeds: Blogger users can syndicate their content via an Atom Feed. If you are using Blogger and you would rather syndicate in RSS, your only choice is to use an outside service like FeedBurner.com.
